Open Letter from 80 Blackheath Village Businesses

On the 1st October 2025, a letter was submitted to the council by 80 Blackheath Village businesses - including major community institutions The Blackheath Conservatoire and Blackheath Halls - stating their firm objection to the planning application. 


The objection focusses on:


  • Lack of consultation / engagement from the developer with the business community
  • Disruption to / Potential loss of the Farmers' market and the effect this will have
  • Loss of Parking and the effect this will have on local business - something that the council well know because they used it as the basis for their objection to the previous attempt to develop the car park back in 2006


The reality is that local businesses were not meaningfully consulted by the developer despite the huge impact this is likely to have on them and further that no effort has been made to understand or mitigate this impact.
